The other day, I got an email from a woman who asked "how much weight can I expect to lose on the Nutrisystem diet because I have a lot to lose and I don't know how realistic my goals are."  I'll share with you how I answered her in the following article.

What Kind Of Weight Loss Or Weekly Pounds Shed Is Typical With Nutrisystem?:  If you look at the information on the website, you'll see that the company will tell you that 2-3 pounds per week is realistic.  I have to say that in my opinion, this is probably ensuring that your expectations are pretty low, or else the company is figuring that some cheating is going to be involved.  Think about it.  You're taking in around 1200-1300 calories per day and you're eating a "glycemic friendly" diet meaning you're consuming a high amount of protein and a low amount of carbs / sugar.  It's pretty well known that this state puts your body into fat burning mode or ketosis.
However, there is one part of the equation that the company can not control.  That is what you add in to the prepackaged meals on your own.  To ensure that you're getting fresh foods and have variety and control, the company asks you to add a side of dairy, protein, fruit, or veggies with every meal.  Each meal will offer a suggestion as to what would make a good side, but this decision is up to you.  However, you will get a lost faster and more dramatic results if you chose foods that are low on the glycemic scale and high in protein.  For example, if you're going to chose yogurt (a popular choice) you want to make sure that you pick one that isn't loaded with sugar.  This will affect how fast you get in ketosis or if you stay there. 
Maximizing The Number Of Pounds And The Amount Of Weight You'll Lose On The Nutrisystem Diet: Following this same train of thought, I've spent a lot of time on this diet myself and spend a lot of time on the blogs and forums.  2 pounds per week is pretty easy to achieve unless you just give up.  Many people fall into the 4-5 pounds per week category.  They do it by choosing their sides wisely and trying to move more.  It's never a good idea to go over board or to do too much.  However, riding your bike, rollerblading, or power walking are all things that you can easily fit into your day and can make quite the difference.  Even if you can burn an additional 50 -100 calories per day (and this is pretty much on the low side), that's 500 additional calories if you make the time five times per week.   If you can bump it up to 100-200 calories burned per day, you'll double your results and see yourself shrink much faster.
Speaking of reducing calories though, you don't want to skip meals and you don't want to skip your sides.  These things are needed to keep you in ketosis.  Trust me when I say this.  I know it from experience.  I hope I've shown you that the answer to the question of "how much weight can I lose on Nutrisystem?" is really as much weight as you want.  The real question is how long you are willing to stick to it and how willing you are to follow the instructions and make wise choices.  The company really gives you the tools to do this.  The rest is up to you.
